Introduction

Pantyhose are a type of close-fitting garment that is typically worn by women, covering the legs and waist. These garments are made of sheer fabric and often have an elastic waistband. Pantyhose are designed to be worn under skirts or dresses and provide coverage while also remaining comfortable and breathable. This article will explore the history of pantyhose, including who invented them and how they rose to become a staple in women’s fashion.

A Brief History of Pantyhose: Who Invented Them?

The concept of pantyhose has been around for centuries. The earliest mentions of pantyhose can be found in 16th century paintings, where women are wearing a form of hosiery that covers their legs and waist. Over the years, these garments evolved from thick, woolen stockings to more lightweight and sheer fabrics such as nylon and Lycra.

The modern version of pantyhose was created in 1959, when a man named Allen Grant patented the design. Grant was an inventor and entrepreneur who had the vision to create a product that combined the comfort and flexibility of stockings with the coverage of trousers. His patent described a “sheer leg covering which extends from the waist to the toes.”

  1. Allen Grant’s invention of pantyhose was inspired by his desire to provide women with a comfortable and stylish option for covering their legs. Who would of thought that Allen Grant’s invention of pantyhose would spill over to the male population in a big way. Several hosiery companies are now marketing their pantyhose and tights to men. They claim that at least 1/2 of their sales are from men that love the feeling and comfort of wearing what was exclusively women’s pantyhose. I was the lucky winner of a pair of Threads sheer to the waist 20 denier pantyhose in 2022 and have now prescribed to receive 2 pairs of these pantyhose every month. All us men need now is to be excepted wearing women’s (men’s) hosiery so we can wear them confidently under our shorts in public.
