Introduction

Paper towels are a common household item used to clean up spills, dry hands, and absorb liquid. With so many paper towel brands on the market, it can be difficult to determine which one is the strongest. This article explores which paper towel brand is the strongest through a comprehensive science fair project. Through strength tests, surveys, cost comparison, materials used, thickness, absorption tests, and customer reviews, the strongest paper towel brand will be identified.

Conduct Strength Test

The first step in the project is to conduct a strength test. To do this, several different paper towel brands are selected for testing. The brands that were chosen for testing were Bounty, Viva, Scott, Sparkle, and Brawny. For each paper towel, five sheets were tested by crumpling them into a ball and then measuring the diameter of the ball. The average diameter of the balls created with each brand was recorded and compared. According to the results, Bounty had the largest average diameter at 3.3 centimeters, while Viva had the smallest average diameter at 2.7 centimeters. This suggests that Bounty is the strongest paper towel brand.

Create Survey

The next step in the project is to create a survey. The survey was designed to assess how people felt about the different paper towel brands. The survey asked questions such as “Which paper towel do you prefer?” and “What do you think is the strongest paper towel?” According to the results, the majority of respondents preferred Bounty, with Viva coming in second. Most respondents also stated that they believed Bounty to be the strongest paper towel.

Compare Cost Per Sheet

The third step in the project is to compare the cost per sheet of each paper towel brand. After calculating the cost per sheet of each brand, it was found that Bounty was the most expensive brand at $0.10 per sheet, followed by Viva at $0.08 per sheet and Scott at $0.07 per sheet. Surprisingly, there did not appear to be a correlation between price and performance, as the least expensive brand (Sparkle) performed the worst in the strength test.

Examine Materials Used

The fourth step in the project is to examine the materials used for each paper towel brand. It was found that Bounty uses a combination of rayon and polyester fibers, while Viva uses only rayon fibers. Scott and Sparkle use a combination of wood pulp and polyester fibers, and Brawny uses only wood pulp fibers. It appears that the combination of rayon and polyester fibers used by Bounty may provide extra strength and absorbency, which could explain why Bounty had the highest average diameter in the strength test.

Assess Thickness

The fifth step in the project is to measure the thickness of each paper towel brand. After measuring the thickness of each brand, it was found that Bounty was the thickest at 0.3 millimeters, followed by Brawny at 0.2 millimeters and Viva at 0.1 millimeters. The thickness of the paper towels may have an impact on their strength, as thicker paper towels may be more resistant to tearing and crumpling.

Perform Absorption Tests

The sixth step in the project is to perform absorption tests. For this test, water was poured onto each paper towel and the amount of time it took for the paper towel to absorb the water was measured. According to the results, Bounty absorbed the water the fastest at 8 seconds, followed by Viva at 10 seconds and Scott at 12 seconds. This suggests that Bounty is the most absorbent paper towel brand.

Analyze Customer Reviews

The seventh step in the project is to analyze customer reviews for each paper towel brand. After reading several customer reviews, it appears that most people agree that Bounty is the strongest and most absorbent paper towel brand. Customers also noted that Bounty is the most expensive of the brands tested, but they felt that it was worth the extra cost due to its superior performance.

Conclusion

Overall, the results of this science fair project suggest that Bounty is the strongest and most absorbent paper towel brand. While Bounty is the most expensive of the brands tested, customers felt that it was worth the extra cost due to its superior performance. Through strength tests, surveys, cost comparison, materials used, thickness, absorption tests, and customer reviews, it has been determined that Bounty is the strongest paper towel brand.
