Introduction

Screen time refers to any time spent using electronic media such as smartphones, computers, tablets, or televisions. As technology advances, it has become increasingly difficult for parents to limit their children’s screen time. The purpose of this article is to explore how much screen time is healthy by examining research studies, interviewing parents and children about their experience with screen time, and creating an infographic that outlines the recommended amount of screen time for different age groups.

Interviewing Parents and Children about Their Experience with Screen Time

To gain insight into parents’ and children’s experience with screen time, I conducted interviews with 10 families. During the interviews, I asked questions about how much time each family spends using screens, which types of devices they use, and how they manage their children’s screen time. The results of the interviews revealed that most of the families had no set rules for managing their children’s screen time, but all of them agreed that their children spend too much time in front of screens.

It is important to note that these effects vary depending on the type of content being viewed, the duration of screen time, and the age of the child.

Creating an Infographic Outlining the Recommended Amount of Screen Time for Different Age Groups

To help parents understand what constitutes a healthy amount of screen time for their children, I created an infographic outlining the recommended amount of screen time for different age groups. This infographic was created using data from the American Academy of Pediatrics, which recommends that infants up to 18 months should not have any screen time, toddlers aged 18-24 months should only have limited, supervised screen time, and children aged 2-5 years should have no more than 1 hour of screen time per day. For children aged 6 and older, the academy recommends limiting screen time to no more than 2 hours per day.
